The Kentucky Breed and Discipline Council

The Kentucky Breed and Discipline Council (KBDC) is a coalition of leaders from all Kentucky breed and discipline associations, established in January, 2012.

The establishment of this council was a key priority in the KHC all-breed and all-discipline strategic session in September 2011.

The goal of the KBDC is to work together to create feasible, all-encompassing programs and activities to strengthen the horse industry in Kentucky. It will consider issues that affect all horses in Kentucky, including ‘horses as livestock’, education of KY officials about the diversity and economic impact of the industry, support and maintenance of show and trail facilities, horse programs for children and youth, equine business development, and more.

Once formed, the KBDC will nominate representatives to seats on the Kentucky Horse Council board, allowing direct input from equine associations to Horse Council directions and priorities.  The KHC will coordinate and support the operations of the KBDC.

Members of the KBDC must be association members of the Kentucky Horse Council.

2012 KBDC Recommendations to the KHC Board:
January - June:  Create an all-events equine calendar with automatic notification of events to members.
July - end of year:  Develop a white paper on the legal status of horses as livestock per Kentucky statute language.
