All About TowPal

The Kentucky Horse Council offers customized TowPal service for members

The goal of The Kentucky Horse Council is to protect the welfare of Kentucky's horses. This includes protecting them during transportation. For this reason, the Kentucky Horse Council has contracted with TowPal, North America's premier provider of trailer safety communication services. Kentucky Horse Council Members have the opportunity to receive a customized KHC TowPal service at a cost much lower than non-members. This service includes the custom KHC signage and access to the industry-leading reliability of the TowPal system. It can be purchased directly through the KHC.

A young KHC member, with her favorite grey mare in tow, is headed down the highway when she receives a call on her cell phone. The TowPal message center has forwarded an alert message that was placed by a passerby, telling her that the trailer gate safety latches have come undone. She immediately pulls off the road, gets out of her pick-up and walks to the back of her trailer to see that the trailer gate was within seconds of coming loose. Thanks to the Good Samaritan, and their ability to notify the KHC member through the TowPal service, a terrible tragedy was avoided.

Trailering accidents happen. Many could be avoided if there is adequate warning. You can take advantage of the TowPal service through a special arrangement for KHC members at the discounted price of $35 shipped- significantly less than the price offered to non KHC members.

The KHC knows that anyone who has any understanding of the pressures, uncertainties, and problems of towing would gladly reach out to try to help a driver in danger of harming their horses, damaging their equipment, having an accident, or causing harm to someone else through vehicle contact or flying debris. These help messengers know that the driver would much rather change a tire, close a compartment, re-secure a load, or fix any other problem on an exit ramp, rest area, or pull-off rather than risk the alternative. TowPal could allow a Good Samaritan to give you a heads-up before the tire is totally shredded.

Safely and securely allowing a Good Samaritan to alert a driver of impending problems without putting themselves at risk of being involved in an accident is something everyone would want to do. If a serious safety issue exists, trying to motion to the driver puts both parties at risk. TowPal also discovered that most people want to be helpful but also want to help anonymously.

Kentucky Horse Council members are equipped with customized Kentucky Horse Council signs that have a six-digit identifying number. When a driver or passenger in another vehicle notices any problems with a trailer or vehicle in tow the concerned citizen can call the toll-free number on the sign, and enter the 6-digit I.D. number, and leave a short message. Within 30 seconds the tow driver gets a call from TowPal and the message (play example play) is played. If the tow driver doesn’t acknowledge receiving the message (by pressing 4) a call is made to the second number on file at TowPal. In most cases the second call goes to a spouse or other family member traveling with the driver or someone who knows all contact methods including sending a text message.

Take a moment to try it out.

TowPal now allows you to try out the calling system for yourself by calling in to the TowPal system at 1-800-603-6020 and entering the code 626 626, just like if you were following someone with TowPal, and you intended to alert them of an issue.

Once you leave the message, you'll receive the same call that you would if you were the driver- a call that could save you time, money, or even a loved one's life. Don't just take our word for it- go ahead and give it a try!

Whether you’re pulling your horse trailer to a competition or trail ride, driving an RV, or towing a boat or motorcycle, accidents happen. Although TowPal can’t stop accidents from occurring in every situation, just preventing a fraction of these accidents saves lives and repair costs to travelers on the road throughout the United States.

Potentially preventing these accidents can save significant dollars in insurance deductibles and personal liability exposure. This is only one of the potential benefits of TowPal. Insurance policies may cover equipment, but it doesn’t pay you for the hassle— nor can they bring back loved ones, horses, and other animals and items that are worth more than an insurance policy. Minor incidents which typically wouldn’t even be covered because they are under the deductible, such as water damage by open doors, items falling off a trailer, or damage from a prop dropping on a boat can potentially be prevented by utilizing TowPal, all while showing your support for the KHC.
