Below are the types of education that the Kentucky Horse Council provides for Kentucky horse owners. Seminars can be scheduled at or near your location. Please contact the Kentucky Horse Council office (Essie Rogers, Director of Education) to request any of the seminars or classes.
A 60 minute, ten part DVD including information on horse selection, care, and management appropriate for new horse owners. The DVD features Kentucky equine professionals with expertise in nutrition, farm management, veterinary medicine, hoof care, and more.
So You Want to Own a Horse?
FREE two hour seminar that provides basic information about horse ownership. This class is ideal for those interested in first time horse ownership. So You Want to Own a Horse? is taught at various locations throughout the state by the Kentucky Horse Council and includes valuable educational resources from the American Farriers Association, American Association of Equine Practitioners, and more. Is My Horse Too Fat?
This two hour hands-on workshop teaches horse owners how to use the Henneke Scale to determine horses' Body Condition Score. Knowing how to determine body condition score can be a useful tool for both identifying and maintaining healthy body weight for your horse. Portions of the course are conducted in a classroom setting. Access to quiet, calm horses is a requirement for this training. Is my horse too fat? is offered throughout the state and taught by the Kentucky Horse Council. Minimum class attendance of 10 required to provide the training. Fees: $10 members, $15 non-members.
