How Your Donation Can Help
TRAILS
Help keep trails open, help develop better facilities for trails like trailheads and horse camps, help educate trail riders about good trail building and land owner relationships, advertise Kentucky's trails nationally.
Examples of what various donation levels could do:
$25 Print 15 Kentucky Trail Directories
$50 Pay for presentation to lawmakers about trail issues
$100 Pay for national trail conference scholarship for a Kentucky trail leader
$250 Run an ad in Trail Blazer or Trail Rider magazines about Kentucky's trails
EDUCATION
Offer classes for new horse owners; provide expert speakers for associations;distribute HorseSmarts DVD which teaches the top ten basics of owning a horse; support the Kentucky Equine Network Association education (see KENA webpage)
Examples of what various donation levels could do:
$25 Provide scholarship for equine student to attend Kentucky Equine Network Association speaker & dinner
$50 Donate HorseSmarts DVD to seven Kentucky County libraries
$100 Pay for class manual for hands-on New Horse Owner class
$250 Partially underwrite UK's Horse College (see www.uky.edu/Ag/AnimalSciences/equine/HorseCollege.html )
HEALTH & WELFARE
Provide support for education on horse health to all horse owners; distribute information on diseases and current research on them; Train animal control officers to recognize a horse at risk and how to build a case; geld stallions whose owners cannot afford it.
Examples of what various donation levels could do:
$25 Provide Coggins for a horse relinquished to a rescue facility
$50 Send one horse owner to a seminar on diseases and general horse health
$100 Geld one horse OR pay tuition for one attendee at Livestock Investigation Training (for animal control officers)
$250 Provide scholarship for pre-vet student
YOUTH
Support the involvement of youth in horse industry, and encourage students to enter equine career field.
Examples of what various donation levels could do:
$25 Provide refreshments for youth at Career Fair
$50 Purchase saddle bags for winner of Youth Trail Mileage competition
$100 Pay for two youths to attend the Kentucky Trail Summit or the KHC Annual Conference
$250 Underwrite part of annual $1000 Bob Coleman 4-H Scholarship
ELECTED OFFICIALS EDUCATION
Help KHC staff, board and other industry leaders educate state legislators, county judge executives and state agency administrators about the importance of Kentucky's horse industry to their city, county or the Commonwealth.
Examples of what various donation levels could do:
$25 Pay for 15 copies of informational materials for senators and representatives
$50 Provide a mileage allotment for an industry representative to get to Frankfort for an important hearing
$100 Pay for mailing to all country judge executives on the importance of and results from the Kentucky Equine Study
$250 Partially underwrite a Legislative Reception open to all Kentucky breeds and disciplines, to develop relationships with key state legislators.
