The program provides financial assistance to promote discriminate breeding practices by supporting the castration of male equines for Kentucky horse owners with limited finances.
Qualifying Kentucky horse owners may be eligible for vouchers payable to the servicing veterinarian up to $100 per horse or $250 per family (multiple horses).
Charges in excess of the voucher amount are to be paid by the horse owner to the veterinarian. Horse owners work directly with their veterinarian to have the geld service performed.

Application must be completed and approved with all required documentation prior to the scheduled surgery

Discounted services are offered to LOW INCOME Kentucky residents (individuals and families) only

Commercial operations and breeding farms are excluded from this offering

All male equines on the property must be gelded or slated to be gelded through this program to qualify

It is the owner’s responsibility to make all arrangements with the veterinarian once the voucher is approved

Fees for services rendered are paid directly to the veterinarian providing the service after the castration has been performed (limit $100 per horse, up to $250 per family for multiple horses)

The attending veterinarian must complete a geld statement verifying that all male equine are gelded and submit the statement with the invoice to the Kentucky Horse Council
