Kentucky's Liability Law

Kentucky Revised Statute 247.402 protects farmers from liability for inherent risks when participants are engaged in activities involving horses. In order to garner that protection the farm needs to post signs with the official KRS 247.2027 wording and have participants sign a waiver which also includes that wording. Posted signs need to be in black lettering with letters at least 1" in height.  Please note: the law does not protect the farm owner in the case of negligence or if proper signs and waivers are not posted and signed.

Signs should be posted in a CLEARLY visible location:

·         on or near stables

·         on or near corrals

·         on or near areas where the farm animal professional or the farm animal activity sponsor conducts farm animal activities

More information about the liability statute can be found at http://www.lrc.ky.gov/KRS/247-00/4027.PDF.
