Mobile Ag Science Center (MASC)
The Kentucky Horse Council is the sponsor and provider of materials for the equine learning center in the MASC. This 44-foot long trailer with 10 iPad interactive workstations allows a classroom of students to conduct activities and investigations related to agriculture and the environment. All activities align with Scientific Inquiry in Kentucky's Education Standards. The target grade levels are 4th and 5th grades. However, activities are available for other grade levels.
For more information of scheduling of the Science Center, contact Jordan Spalding at the KY Department of Agriculture via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or via phone at (502) 782-4125.
Kids Barn at the Kentucky Horse Park
The Kids Barn is an interactive facility with daily educational and fun activities that are guaranteed to capture even the youngest child's attention. The Kentucky Horse Council sponsors a section showing the connection between "form and function", ie. how breed conformation characteristics make them most suitable for different types of uses.
Hats Off Day
KHC has been a regular sponsor and exhibitor at Hats Off Day, sponsored by Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital. This full day of education and entertainment about the horse is open to the public and held at the Kentucky Horse Park. A unique feature of this day is that free horse-related ballcaps are given out as long as supplies last.
City Slickers is a program for families at the Kentucky Horse Park which offers parents and children to learn about horses together for a half day, with KY Horse Park staff and horses. It has proven to be a popular class, as we are realizing that parents want to learn about horses as much as the kids do!
