The KY Horse Council recognizes that not all horses in Kentucky are blessed with adequate food, shelter and veterinary care. As a part of the KHC mission to care for the welfare of the horse, the SOHO (Save Our Horses) fund was established to allow horse owners and enthusiasts to contribute to helping these horses. Donations to the fund are tax-deductible.
The fund is managed by the KHC Health and Welfare committee and used to support all Health & Welfare programs. SoHo funds may be used for:
-
Funding the Equine Safety Net, which feeds horses for a month when the owner has had an unexpected loss of job, or a medical emergency that reduces their income
-
Supporting the Kentucky Large Animal Emergency Rescue, a volunteer effort which rescues horses who have been involved in trailer accidents, fall into ravines, get stuck in mud, and other emergency situations.
-
Providing Livestock Investigation Training for Animal Control Agencies and local county officials
-
Providing financial support for feeding Kentucky horses and providing veterinarian care when they are confiscated by county officials.
-
Assisting people in finding resources for & reporting abused & neglected horses.
-
Providing financial support for transportation & coggins when horses are signed over to a qualified equine rescue.
