May 28, 2010 - Vesicular Stomatitis Outbreak in Arizona Limits Imports to KY
Resulting from vesicular stomatitis being diagnosed as the condition affecting three horses in Cochise County Arizona, Kentucky has imposed travel restrictions on livestock, wild and exotic animals destined to Kentucky. Attached is notification sent to the Arizona State Veterinarian restricting the movement of livestock (including equine), wild and exotic animals into Kentucky from a defined area in Southeast Arizona.
In Summary:
No livestock (including equine), wild or exotic animals are permitted entry into Kentucky which originate within a 10 mile radius of any premises under a vesicular stomatitis quarantine. Practitioners shall consult the affected state’s State Veterinarian or other Animal Health Official to determine if animals under their care are within an embargoed area.
In addition to the embargo, Kentucky now restricts the entry of all livestock, wild and exotic animals from the entirety of Cochise County Arizona to those that meet the additional entry requirements outlined in the the memorandum (i.e. Testing, Examination and Permitting) available by
