Through the VITALSTM program, the Kentucky Horse Council seeks to support and promote informed, communicative veterinary client relationships. The goal of VITALSTM is for every horse barn to be equipped with a stethoscope and thermometer and the skills to use both.

Horse owners should work with their veterinarian to learn how to properly assess vital signs. Recognizing the normal vital sign ranges (and deviations) for each individual horse is paramount in identifying the onset of illness.
