Livestock Investigation Training
Livestock Investigation training is taught three times a year at various locations throughout the Commonwealth. The three day classes are open to animal control officers, peace officers, and county officials. Training is offered in two levels. Level I has been approved by the Kentucky Animal Control Advisory Board. Re-approval for continuing education credits through the Department of Criminal Justice Training is currently pending. Graduates of the Level I training may attend Level II. Officials with horse handling experience and a sound knowledge of Kentucky law may attend Level II training by approval. Identifying Equine Neglect is a two hour seminar which covers the volunteer role in supporting law enforcement efforts to investigate equine neglect. Participants learn about strategies for working with law enforcement officers, re-feeding the starving horse, and veterinary care for the neglected horse. 10 participants required to hold the class. The Veterinarian's Role in Addressing Equine Neglect
An overview of the veterinarian's role in supporting the investigation, prosecution, and rehabilitation of equine neglect in Kentucky. Presentation material includes information on US and State laws applicable to the investigation of equine neglect, the role of the county, and identifies available resources. Attendees are provided information on using the Henneke Scale to determine body condition score. In addition the AAEP Guidelines for Re-Feeding Starving Horses is presented. 2 hour seminar.
