Kentucky Department of Agriculture Creates Resource List for Disaster Relief

The Kentucky Department of Agriculture has launched a resource page on their website for farm families affected by the July flooding in Eastern Kentucky. Through this page, ag producers can find the help they need while they work to recover what was lost, including:

  • Disaster Assistance Programs from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency
  • An overview of federal assistance programs
  • A tip sheet for ag producers for assessing damage
  • Information from the Kentucky State Veterinarian’s office on livestock disposal
  • Mental health resources
In addition, this page offers information on how individuals not affected by the flooding can help out their fellow Kentuckians.

FLOOD UPDATE 8.4.2022

At this time, horse owners are not asking for anything other than smaller loads of small square-bale hay as they have minimal places to store it. Many horse owners are in areas that are still impassible, so hay is literally being driven as close as possible and walked or floated across the water to get to where it’s needed.

Do you have small square bale to donate? Do you know of a horse owner in need? Please email the KHC office at info@kentuckyhorse.org We are compiling a list of resources and will work to arrange delivery to flood-affected counties as needed.

The Kentucky Horse Council is not headquartered in the counties affected by the flooding; as such, we feel strongly that horse lovers should donate to entities that are in the area and able to ensure the funds get into the hands of those most in need. Please consider donating to any of these wonderful organizations listed below, who have people literally working day and night to help as many as they can. The KHC is honored to help in any way we can. Have an idea of how else we can assist? Please reach out.
