American Paint Horse Association Foundation Scholarships

Applications are due by March 1st annually

The American Paint Horse Foundation awards more than 50 academic scholarships annually to Paint Horse Youth around the world; each academic scholarship is worth $1,000 and renewable for up to three years after the first award year.

American Saddlebred Museum: Keith Bartz Impact Scholarship Award:

Applications open in the Fall

$1,500 - Applicants must be twenty-one years of age or under that has demonstrated a commitment to the American Saddlebred and to excellence in their community.

American Hackney Horse Society Foundation Scholarship

Applications are due July 15th annually

Awarded to high school graduates on the basis of submitted evidence of academic success, financial need, extracurricular activities (including community service), involvement with Hackney Horses and/or Ponies, and personal references. An interview may also be required.

American Horse Council Scholarship

Applications will open March 1st, 2025

Beginning in 2025, the American Horse Council (AHC) Foundation will offer five (5) “Future Leaders Professional Development” Scholarships to cover the cost of conference registration for Agriculture/ Equine college students wishing to attend the AHC Annual Conference in Washington DC.

American Morgan Horse Association

Several grant and scholarship opportunities are available from this organization, with most application deadlines being in the fall.

American Quarter Horse Foundation Scholarships

Applicants complete a single application to determine your eligibility for available scholarship funding. Eligibility of applicants is based on the individual criteria and requirements provided for each scholarship offered. Recipients are selected based on academic achievement, financial need and Quarter Horse involvement, as well as an applicant’s outstanding leadership and communication skills. The grading scale for selection of each scholarship will vary dependent upon the criteria established by that scholarship's donor. Only one scholarship will be awarded per recipient, and may not be combined with another scholarship awarded by the American Quarter Horse Foundation

American Saddlebred Horse Association Scholarships

ASHA Youth Scholarships Deadline: June 1st

Melissa Moore Passion for the Breed Scholarships Deadline: December 1st

Description: for ASHBA and KASPHA members who are students seeking undergraduate or graduate level education, and have a sincere passion for all aspects of the American Saddlebred breed.

Appaloosa Horse Club Scholarships

Applications are due April 15th annually

The Appaloosa Youth Foundation awards thousands of dollars to youth who are pursuing higher education. Up to five scholarships may be awarded to high school graduates, upperclassmen and graduate students who are members of the ApHC or are the son or daughter of an ApHC member. Applicants must currently maintain a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, or the equivalent 5.2 on a 6.0 scale. Each applicant must provide, or have submitted on their behalf, three letters of recommendation. Official transcripts must accompany each application. Additional requirements are outlined in the application.

EQUUS Foundation Scholarships

Applications are due October 15th annually

Several scholarship opportunities are available. Applicants need to confirm that they are enrolled in an equine studies program at a participating educational institution on the EQUUS Foundation Equine Education Network before applying.

Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation Research Career Development Awards

Applications are due October 1st annually

Two awards will be available, the Storm Cat Career Development Award and the Elaine & Bertram Klein Development Award. These are competitive programs intended to promote development of promising investigators by providing a one year salary supplement

Harness Horse Youth Foundation Scholarships

Applications are due June 1st annually

Applicants for HHYF scholarships must be at least high school seniors and preferably under the age of 25. The selection criteria for all of the scholarships include demonstrated scholastic achievement, including but not limited to the applicant’s GPA; financial need; completeness of application, quality of essay, and video questions.

Intercollegiate Equestrian Foundation Scholarships

Applications are due February 20st annually

The IEF awards multiple general scholarships each year to deserving undergraduate students. Applicants need not be a member of the Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association.

Kentucky Farm Bureau Scholarships

Eligibility: Must be a child of Kentucky Farm Bureau member and remain such while the scholarship is in force
Must finish high school within the year the scholarship is applied for.

Kentucky Hunter Jumper Association Scholarship

Applications are due November 1st annually

Description: Applicant must be a current member of KHJA and have been for at least 3 years. Applicant must be a high school senior entering college, a full time undergraduate student, or an adult seeking a certification or continuing education credit.

National Reining Horse Youth Association Scholarships

Applications open January annually

The applicant must have been a member of the NRHyA for at least 24 months and be an active member of the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) at the application deadline

Purina Scholarship Program

Applications will open March 1st annually

Land O’Lakes, Inc. has established a scholarship program for students who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs. Must have experience showing or caring for large/small livestock animals, equine, or poultry (not house pets).

Student American Veterinary Medical Association (SAVMA) Awards and Scholarshipa

Deadline: variable; see SAVMA website for deadlines for each award.

SAVMA House of Delegates Committees awards grants and stipends to vet students across many categories each year.

The Christian Harness Horsemen's Association Scholarship

Applications are due May 31st annually

Available to graduating high school seniors and/or students enrolled in an educational institution of higher learning. Students who demonstrate a strong commitment to their Christian faith and are involved in harness racing are encouraged to apply.

The Jockey Club Advancement of Women in Racing Scholarship

Applications typically open in November, and close in January

$20,000 ($10,000 per semester)
Description: Open to women only. Open to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in a full-time program. Open to any equine breed or discipline; preference will be given to candidates with the academic credentials, work experience, and expressed desire to secure employment in the Thoroughbred industry.

The Jockey Club Benevolence Scholarship

Applications typically open in November, and close in January

$15,000 ($7,500 per semester)
Description: Scholarship to reduce financial hardship for a low-income student to enable attendance at a full-time program at a college, university, or trade program. Selection based on financial need, leadership skills in extracurricular activities, and proposed career path. Preference to backstretch and horse farm employees and their family members.

The Jockey Club Scholarship

Applications typically open in November, and close in January

$15,000 ($7,500 per semester)
Description: Scholarship for students in academic pursuit of majors for future employment in the equine industry. Open to any equine breed or discipline; preference will be given to candidates with the academic credentials, work experience, and expressed desire to secure employment in the Thoroughbred industry.

The Jockey Club Vision Scholarship

Applications typically open in November, and close in January

$20,000 ($10,000 per semester)
Description: Scholarship for a student who is from a minority racial or ethnic group: Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, American Indian or Native Alaskan, Asian, Hispanic or Latino, or Black or African American. Open to undergraduates and graduate students enrolled in a full-time program. Open to any equine breed or discipline; preference will be given to candidates with the academic credentials, work experience, and expressed desire to secure employment in the Thoroughbred industry.

The RACE for Education Scholarships

Applications are due May 2nd annually

There are several scholarships offered. Applications must be be electronically submitted.

US Equestrian: Higher Education Equestrian Scholarship

US Equestrian offers five $1,000 scholarships for High School Seniors preparing to enter a College or University. Applicants must be high school seniors preparing to enter a college or university, as well as active competing or subscribing members of USEF. Applicants must continue to be involved in equestrian related experiences throughout college to be considered. This can be through an equestrian-related degree or classes, participation in an intercollegiate equestrian team or club, an equestrian related internship, job, volunteer work, or any other proven commitment to continued involvement and education in equestrian sport. Scholarship funds will be awarded directly to the recipient's educational institution.

USDA 1890 National Scholars Program

Applications will open March 1st annually

The USDA 1890 National Scholars Program is aimed at bolstering educational and career opportunities for students from rural or underserved communities around the country. It was established in 1992 as part of the partnership between USDA and the 1890 land-grant universities, aimed at increasing the number of students from rural and underserved communities who study food, agriculture, natural resource and other related sciences. The scholarship provides recipients with full tuition, fees, books, room and board. Scholars attend one of the 1890 land-grant universities and pursue degrees in agriculture, food, natural resource sciences, or related academic disciplines. The scholarship may also include work experience at USDA.

United States Hunter Jumper Association

Applications deadlines are in the spring

Must have a two-year consecutive USHJA Membership, and you may only receive the scholarship one time.

United States Pony Clubs Scholarships

Applications are due March 31st annually

Must be a Pony Club member. Pony Club scholarships are awarded based on merit, as well as an essay, to any member meeting the qualifications. Members must be accepted or enrolled in an institution of higher education.

University of Louisville Equine Scholarships and Awards

Must be a student at the University of Louisville student who has been admitted to the College of Business and is an Equine Business major or an online Horse Racing Industry Business Certificate graduate student. You only need to apply once to be considered for all available Equine Industry scholarships.
