Kentucky West Nile Virus update 8/22/25

1 Equine Confirmed 8/22/25 as affected with West Nile virus.


In MERCER County KDA:04 is

-a  4yr STDBRED Crossed Fe - ALIVE

Onset Date: Was seen by attending veterinarian on 8/19, presenting with a severe ataxia.


On 8/22 reported to be alive and showing some improvement

Vaccination: No WNv vaccination history,


Note: This is the 4th equine WN case confirmed this year and none of the 4 have a record of having been vaccinated.


The Department of Agriculture's Equine West Nile page will be updated to include this 4th confirmed equine WNv for 2025.The general public will be made aware by posting to the EDCC later this afternoon or weekend.
